The Paracas National Reserve consists of the Paracas Peninsula, coastal areas and tropical desert. It provides a sanctuary to 74 species of plants that grow in this extremely arid area, and to 216 species of birds, 16 types of mammals, 10 species of reptiles and 193 species of fish. The protected natural marine area covers 3350 square kilometres, 65% of it is sea and 35% land and islands. It is considered as one of the richest and most uncommon ecosystems in the world, but in all honesty the attraction is not only the wildlife, but the beauty of the ocean and desert landscapes.

Take a small private 3 hour boat tour to Los Arcos, an underwater national marine park reserve. Los Arcos is an excellent and very safe snorkel site to start for experienced and not so experienced snorkelers. The reef depth range is from 3-30 feet/visibility between 15-50 feet year round. Fish you can expect to see, angel fish, puffer fish, cornet fish, parrot fish, and damsels that feed on the shallow reefs of Los Arcos.

The Park Los Haitises is home to miles of untouched mangrove forests, secluded beaches, ancient caves and island outcroppings that dot the San Lorenzo bay. The adundance of red mangroves, that stretch for miles, create a natural incubator for young sea life, protecting them from larger predators in the open water. Los Haitises is also home to two endangered land mammals – the Hispaniolan Hutia and the Solenodon. Both are only found in the Dominican Republic.

The Magallanes National Reserve is located 8 kilometers west of the city of Punta Arenas and has beautiful hiking trails, where you can walk while admiring the vegetation and, with a bit of luck, the native fauna.
