Sunset and Sunrise walk at sipi Falls involves Enjoying views of Sipi Falls, the walls of death and the African sunrise accross the Karamoja plains on these peaceful walks just outside the national park. Kapkwai Exploration Center at Kapkwai, 13km from Sipi town, doubles as an educational center for schools and the trail head for climbers and Nature walkers using the Sipi trail to the caldera. Three circuits of between 3-7 km run through the surrounding regenerating forest, where visitors can visit caves, waterfalls, escarpments and viewpoints; and observe birds and primates. Bird species encountered here include Hartlaub’s Turaco, Eastern Bronze-napped Pigeon, Lemon Dove, Dusky-Turtle Dove, African Hill Babbler, Alpine Chat, Black-throated Wattle-eye, Mountain Yellow Warbler, Thick-billed Honey guide, Grey Cuckoo-Shrike

It is a very relaxing experience while enjoying the scenery by overlooking both Sigiriya and Pidurangala Rocks. You can decide which session (morning sunrise/evening sunset) you want to experience depending on your travel plan. We are using a catamaran and you can sit on the deck before starting the activity. Up to 6 members can sit comfortably on the deck. I will be providing life jackets for your safety. I will tell you the stories about the history behind Sigiriya and Pidurangala when those places were occupied by the King Kashyapa (473-491 AD) and also by the monks. Pidurangala was the mein temple in 5th C.AD therefore a lot of activities happened in between Sigiriya and Pidurangala. We can discuss those as well while enjoying the vibe. Also you can observe about 40 water-birds along with their behaviours. We can take a note or list down their names by looking in the bird guide book. The scenery is the main attraction of the boat ride. It is really beautiful!

The trail going up Lion’s head is a screw top trail you’ll be circling the mountain getting to the top. At one point the path gives way to rough ground you have to step up using your hands to scramble over rocks. You will then continue steeply upwards to the first ladder, before traversing along a shelf with a chain handrail. Next, you will reach a fork, where you will have the choices to either veer left to circumnavigate two rock pitches or to turn right and climb the rock pitches. If you are not into vertical rock steps continue left, past some huge pine trees to gain the crest of the southeast ridge. At the summit of Lion's Head one has a 360 degree view it is one of the three iconic peaks that frame the city of Cape Town. I will explain to you about the historical background of the Pidurangala Temple which was the main temple at that time. During the climb we can observe cave dwellings which were used by the Buddhist monks in ancient times to stay. Currently there are few caves with proper walls which are used by meditating monks. I will show you our advanced technology used by the ancient workers to form caves and about tool technology.
