We will go explore Pak Khlong Talad, the original and largest flower market of Bangkok with an extensive of produce selection. Many local florists visit this market in the early morning to buy fresh flowers in bulk to make floral handicraft. On the way, we will visit the Shrine of Somdet Boonma, one of the major founders of Krung Ratanakosin (or Bangkok, Thailand’s current capitol). You will see how Thai people use flower to pay respect to the revered person.
Enter into the Kalayanamitr Temple, the temple with a smoothing blend of Thai and Chinese Buddhism belief. You will pay respect to the Sam Por Kong (one of the largest golden buddha images in Bangkok). You will feel that your body is so small when compared to the size of this buddha image! You will see the beautiful mural painting about peony flower, the symbol of Chinese nation. You will see Thai people paying respect to the lord Buddha in Chinese tradition (by using Chinese incenses and candle sticks). You will ring the biggest bell of Bangkok, which Thai students ring it to pray for academic success!
Kuan Im Holy Mother Shrine has been known internationally as Guanyin Shrine. It is an ancient Chinese joss house in Bangkok, located on the western bank of Chao Phraya River. It’s one of the oldest shrines in Thailand by King Taksin. The Guanyin Bodhisattva is different from other shrines because mostly the Guanyin in other shrines are in standing position, but here the Guanyin is in sitting position. The wood carvings in this temple will give you a feeling of antiquity and serenity.
The Portuguese first arrived in Thailand (then Siam) in 1511 – more than 500 years ago – and began an international relationship with Thailand, the first Western country to do so. The Kudichin neighborhood (Portuguese village) was established before the city’s official founding. In this village, you will have a chance to try Sappayak, a rarefied snack: minced pork, Thai chilies, and potatoes sprinkled with tamarind and stuffed in a soft Portuguese-style bun. Don’t miss this place if you are an exotic snack lover.
Wat Arun, internationally known as the Temple of Dawn, is a landmark temple on the west (Thonburi) bank of the Chao Phraya river. It is one of the most spectacular temples in Bangkok, not only because of its riverside location but also because the design is very different from the other temples in Bangkok. Wat Arun is made up of colorfully decorated spires and stands majestically over the water.
Giant Swing is a famous landmark of bangkok. It was formerly used in an old Brahmin ceremony where Thai people climb up high to “test the strength” of the world. The ceremony was performed until 1935, when it was discontinued after several fatal accidents. You will hear the Giant Swing’s history and an opportunity to take your amazing photos here.
Wat Suthat Thepwararam is a Buddhist temple in Bangkok, Thailand. It is a royal temple of the first grade, one of ten such temples in Bangkok. This temple contains the Buddha image Phra Sri Sakyamuni, which have been moved from Sukhothai Province. At the lower terrace of the base, there are 28 Chinese pagodas which symbolize the 28 Buddhas born on this earth. In 2005, the temple was submitted to UNESCO for consideration as a future World Heritage Site.
The Golden Mount, built under the rule of King Rama V, is 77 meters tall and at the top reside many of Buddhist relics found at Kapilavastu ancient city. Some other interesting things in this Bangkok temple are the many Buddha images, the temple hall, the pagoda, the scripture hall, and the Sri Maha Bodhi tree. You will “climb” up to the Golden Mountain where you see the 360-degree view of the whole Bangkok. Not a real climbing; it is quite an easy walk.
