Day 1: Bangkok – Kanchanaburi

Stop At: Wat Tham Mankhon Thong, Kanchanaburi Thailand
The Cave Temple of Golden Dragon, located in Kanchanaburi city, was firstly built in the early 20th century. This monastery is approximately 100 meters high from the bottom up to the ceiling. Its cave is the focal point of the temple which has been comprised of beautiful stalactites, stalagmites and several ancient Buddha images. The steep staircase nearly 100 steps altogether leading to the cave was neatly made of bricks and mortar.

The Huge Rain Tree, locally known to Thai people as ‘Chamchuri yag’, is located not far from Kanchanaburi city, only half an hour by car. The tree itself is situated in the Royal Thai army’s division of veterinary and agricultureIt. It’s one of interesting things to see while traveling in Kanchanaburi, Thailand because of its own unique feature which is different from other trees. This kind of tree, Genus Samanea Saman, is giantic and worth spending time to enjoy what its huge branches have to offer. Its dimension is an approximate 20 Metres high and 52 Metres in radius. It has been widely believed that it existed there longer than one hundred years.

The Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, locally known as the Don-Rak Cemetery, is the final destination in forever resting place for victims of Japanese’s torture during the 2nd World War by forcing the POWs built the rail-way. There are about 7,000 POWs buried there, mostly Australian, British and Dutch. During the line construction, approximately 13,000 prisoners of war died and were buried along the railway. An estimated 100,000 civilians also died in this tough time as well.

Stop At: War Museum, River Kwai Bridge, Kanchanaburi Thailand
The World War II Museum, located on the Kwai Yai River bank near the bridge over the River Kwai, in Kanchanaburi city, displays a lot of things directly related to the World War II, such as, War’s equipment, pictures, artifacts, etc. Not only the War scenes installed but also parts of the building are exhibited the Art objects such as on the 2nd and 3rd floor. Thai and Myanmar battle fields paintings are mainly shown on the 2nd floor while Thai story in the old days, important figures in Thai society, such as former Thai prime ministers, etc, are found on the 3rd floor.

Stop At: Bridge Over the River Kwai, Tha Makham, Kanchanaburi 71000 Thailand
The well known Bridge over the River Kwai is located in Kanchanaburi, Thailand-Myanmar border, the western part of Thailand. During the 2nd World War, Japan forced the POWs and Asian laborers to build the railway from Ban Pong, Thailand to Thanbyuzayat, Burma. The line running through the Three Pagodas Pass is nearly 400 Kilometers from the beginning to the end, locally known as the Death Railway because the difficult terrain, several thousands of laborers lost their lives. In order to illustrate how hard the working conditions while building the track is, it’s described that each sleeper in the track must be exchanged with one life of laborers.

Day 2: Kanchanaburi – Sangklaburi

Stop At: Erawan Waterfalls, Moo 4 Tha Kradan, Erawan National Park 71250 Thailand
Erawan Waterfall is regarded as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Thailand. It’s located in the Tenasserim Hills in Kanchanaburi Province, about 200 KMs northwest of Bangkok. Erawan Waterfall belongs to the Erawan National Park and has altogether seven tiers. The whole distance of the seven tiers runs approximately 1.5 Kilometers through the park’ tropical rainforest.

Stop At: Phra That Cave, Erawan National Park Tha Kradan, Si Sawat Thailand
Phra That Cave, situated nearly 80 Kms from Kanchanaburi city, is a stunning cave 200 meters wide located quite close to the Erawan Waterfall. A lot of beautiful stalactites and stalagmites are naturally found inside the cave which are translucent and magnificent. A Buddha and Bird statues are properly installed in the middle of the cave made of sandstone.

Stop At: Tham Kra Sae Bridge, Lum Sum 71150 Thailand
Krasae Cave is an important spot in WWII history and is regarded as one of the most beautiful and dangerous viewpoints of the Death railway. It was where POWs rested and located on the cliffs right next to the Railway. This particular area was the hardest section to build the track because the rail built had to curve and be attached to the cliff and the river below the track. Nowadays it’s a tourist attraction for visitors who like to take a walk on the line and worship a Buddha image enshrined inside the cave.

Stop At: Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre and Memorial Walking Trail, 207 Moo 11, Tha Sao 71150 Thailand
Hellfire Pass: refers to a railway cutting on the Death Railway in Kanchanaburi, Thailand which was built by POWs and Asian labors during the 2nd world war. The line is mentioned to the harsh conditions and a lot of life lost during its construction. Hellfire Pass is given the name because the sight of hardship working at night by torchlight looking as if a scene in Hell. This was the largest rock cutting on the railway in addition to its isolated area and lack of proper tools.

Day 3: Sangklaburi – Bangkok

Stop At: Mon Bridge, Nong Lu, Sangkhla Buri 71240 Thailand
Uttamanusorn Bridge: Locally known as the Mon Bridge is a wooden footbridge in Sangkhla Buri District, northwest of Kanchanaburi province, Thailand. The bridge itself is built across the Songaria River and is the longest wooden bridge in Thailand while ranking the 2nd longest in the world after the UBein bridge in Myanmar. Its length is approximately 900 meters and firstly built in late 20th century.

Stop At: Three Pagodas Pass, Nong Lu, Sangkhla Buri Thailand
Three Pagodas Pass: Located in the Tenasserim Hill on the border between Thailand and Burma. The pass connects Sangkhlaburi in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, to the Payathonsu in Myanmar. This pass has a long time been the important man-made symbol in the western, Thailand and regarded as the spot in which the Buddhist teachings flowed into Thailand during the 3rd century. The three pagodas is the western’ ending point of Thailand.
