This temple complex houses the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand, including 46 meters in length and 14 meters in height Reclining Buddha with beautiful mother of pearl inlay. It is also considered the earliest centre for public education in Thailand, and the marble illustrations and inscriptions placed in the temple for public instructions has been recognized by UNESCO in its Memory of the World Programme. It houses a school of Thai medicine, and is also known as the birthplace of traditional Thai massage which is still taught and practiced at the temple.

It is partly made up of colorfully decorated spires(prang) with tiny pieces of colored glass and Chinese porcelain placed delicately into intricate patterns and stands majestically over the river.

A strict dress code applies at Grand Palace. Man must wear long pants and shirts with sleeves (no tank tops). Woman must be similar modestly dressed (no see-through , no tight or torn pants , no miniskirt). You may risk refused entry if you fail to comply with these dress requirements.
Other temples or place of worship, you are required for dress code too : no shorts or sleeveless tops allowed, knees and shoulders MUST be covered for both men and women.
