Itinerary

Day 1: Chiang Mai – Mae Sa (52 km)

Stop At: Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai
You leave the city in a northerly direction along the Ping river. Soon you will be cycling in the countryside through nice villages, rice fields and flower nurseries. With beautiful views of the Doi Suthep-Doi Pui mountain range you then cycle to the valley of Mae Sa. You spend the night in the lower valley. In the upper valley there are many interesting sights to visit, such as the Ma Sa elephant camp, the Mae Sa waterfall and the royal botanical gardens. You can visit these sights by taxi or by bicycle. You have to overcome a difference in height of 300 meters in 7 kilometers per bicycle.

Day 2: Mae Sa – Doi Saket (45 km)

Stop At: Mae Sai, Mae Sai, Chiang Rai Province
Today you first cycle to the Ping river again. Along the way you will pass the agricultural university in Maejo, where you can visit the campus. Then you cycle to the Mae Kuang reservoir. Enjoy the silence and a delicious meal on the shore of a lake. For example, choose a fresh Thai papaya salad or fish and meat from the barbeque. Then you cycle through the rice fields to Doi Saket, your final destination of today.

Day 3: Doi Saket – Ban Pa Hiang (40 km)

Stop At: Doi Saket, Doi Saket
Before you leave Doi Saket, a visit to the temple of Doi Saket is an absolute must. The first part of the route is on a flat road. Slowly it changes into a sloping road. Along the way you can make a stop at the famous healing springs of San Kamphaeng. Here you can take a relaxing bath or a relaxing Thai massage at a low cost. Then you cycle through tranquil side valleys to your special accommodation of today, which is a stone’s throw from a beautiful golf course. Here you can enjoy after having cycled the necessary kilometers.

Day 4: Ban Pa Hiang – Hang Dong (45 km)

Stop At: Hang Dong, Hang Dong
The first part of the day you cycle through a very sparsely populated area with only a few farms. In the vast rice fields, the single palm trees provide picturesque pictures. Back in civilization you will then pass through ribbon villages with authentic stilt houses. Cycling along the highest standing Buddha statue of Northern Thailand and irrigation canals you will eventually reach the Ping River again. Along the river bank you cycle to the resort in the outskirts of Hang Dong.

Day 5: Hang Dong – Chiang Mai (35 km)

Stop At: Hang Dong, Hang Dong
Today you first cycle to the village of Ban Tawai. This village was once known for its artisan wood carvers. Nowadays it is a place where traders from all over the world do their shopping. Then you cycle through fruit plantations towards the Ping river. Along the ruins of Wiang Kum Kam you cycle back to Chiang Mai. More than 700 years ago this settlement was the capital of northern Thailand. Due to the many floods, the capital was moved 10 kilometers away to where the historic center of Chiang Mai is now located.
