Itinerary

Pass By: Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai

Guided by the principle that there more than meets the eye when taking a bike commences with a pick-up service from your booked accommodation in downtown Chiang Mai.

The short drive by vehicle to the starting point comes without guide services. Before following the bike trails along the little-trodden, bicycles will be fitted accordingly for a comfortable ride. We head quick out of the city centre for our two-wheeled adventure: expect idyllic country views and get a glimpse of the rich, cultural side of Chiang Mai. The route takes us through quiet, green areas passing temples and ruins dating back hundreds of years.

Stop At: Wiang Kum Kam, Chiang Mai Thailand

We pass first the city ruins of Wiang Kum Kam, one of the latest discoveries around Chiang Mai. Wiang Kum Kam was a settlement long before King Mengrai’s capital around 1287- 90. The area was restored as a historical park during the 1980-ies. Surrounded by paddy and village houses, the extensive site has a pleasant rural feel, yet it is very close to Chiang Mai.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: McKEAN REHABILITATION CENTER, Mckean Rehabilitation Center and hospital Soi Ko Klang 6 Tambon Tha Wang Tan, Amphoe Saraphi, Chang Wat Chiang Mai 50140, Thailand

Passing temples, a local school and as always, cycling through the real part of Chiang Mai, we enter the compounds of the McKean Institute. This rehabilitation centre was once purposely built as a leper colony, away from the general population. Nowadays, the centre is a green haven in the heart outside Chiang Mai near the Ping River. Before we reach the river banks leading back to the city, we may be in time to stop at a special school for local hill-tribe children and see a community that has kept the art of pottery making alive for centuries. Still, ceramics and pottery of this region are widely recognized for their beauty and durability.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Mae Ping River, Chiang Mai Thailand

We now head back in northern direction along the Ping River, one of the water gateways that lead into Chiang Mai; the fresh air and again, the always present rural scenery wants you to stay there forever. A quick local snack at a small bakery with some water is included before reuniting with the bicycle team at the starting point.

The tour ends with a drive back to your booked accommodation in Chiang Mai centre.
