Itinerary

Day 1: Chiang Mai – Mae Kampong

Stop At: 78/1 Moo3 Mae Kampong Village, Huay Keaw, Mae On Thailand
Your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel at 0800. We will drive to the village Mae Kampong. After arrival we will board a local truck that brings us to the starting point of our hike in Chaeson National Park. From the Kew Fin viewpoint you have a fantastic view of Chiang Mai. We are on the edge of the Chaeson National Park and it is time for trekking!

Duration: 4 hours

Stop At: Chae Son National Park, Chae Son, Mueang Pan District, Lampang 52240, Thailand
We are very flexible: it takes about 45 mins to the summit of Doi Mon Lan. From there we will descend to Mae Kampong. There are many options. It is also possible to take an easier trail down to the village. The village Mae Kampong has become a popular destination for local tourists. You will not see many local tourists on the trails around Mae Kampong. Enjoy the quietness and the healing force of the forest!

We will enjoy picnic lunch in the forest and continue to the small but pretty Mae Kampong waterfall. Before tourism took off, the local people made a living from growing Bai Miang. Your guide will explain about this. When we have reached Mae Kampong, we will check into our homestay. You can have dinner on your own. Overnight will be at a small guesthouse in the village.
Duration: 4 hours

Meals included:

Day 2: Mae Kampong – Baan Thi – Chiang Mai

Stop At: San Kamphaeng Hot Springs, Moo 7, Baan Pong Hom Ban Sahakorn, Mae On 50130 Thailand
We will rise early to visit the local temple and give alms to the monks (if you want…). Enjoy breakfast in a local restaurant. After breakfast we depart Mae Kampong. First stop will be at the Sankamphaeng Hot Springs, after which we will drive to beautiful Baan Thi District with its rice fields and characteristic sugar palms. This is wonderful, typical Northern Thai countryside. In Baan Thi there are many villages of the Tai Lue people.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Ban Thi, Ban Thi, Lamphun Province
Next destination is a Tai Lue village. The Tai Lue people migrated from South China Northern Shan State, now part of Myanmar. Many of them migrated from Shan State to areas around Chiang Mai about 200 years ago. The Tai Lue people have their language, a bit similar to the language spoken in North Thailand. We will visit the small Tai Lue museum and after that make a relaxing bicycle ride through the rice fields. We will stop at a local house where people make traditional rice cakes.
Duration: 4 hours

Stop At: Baan Jang Nak – A Museum of Elephant Wood Carvings, 56/1 Moo 2 Buak Khang, San Kamphaeng 50130 Thailand
We have reserved the best for the last today: Baan Jang Nak, the workshop and museum of the master woodcarver Petch Viriya. Petch is the master carver of wooden elephants but also a very talented painter. His ancestors are Tai Lue from Muang Yong in Shan State. Admire his beautiful paintings, depicting the migration of his ancestors to Chiang Mai. After this, it is time to drive back to Chiang Mai.
