After being picked up from your hotel in Phuket at around 9 am, we head down along one of the more scenic routes that uncover unknown parts of this island. This is a rare chance to take in the natural beauty of Phuket Island as you is driven along scenic beach roads through Patong, Karon, Kata and Rawai. Yet, Phuket is more than its famous beaches. We bring you to lesser-known Eastern part, where life moves on and where ancient cultural traditions are kept alive.
Phuket Town is the official capital of this island is included before we head out to our local lunch address. A remembrance of its rich history and constructed in a Sino-Portuguese style, it would not be complete if you had the chance to wander around its history and unique architecture. With delightful examples of Indo-Portuguese mansions constructed by Chinese tin and rubber barons, Phuket town was originally settled about a century ago by Chinese residents of Malaysia who were drawn to the lucrative mineral deposits. Tin and rubber fortunes created by the great rush formed the great Sino-Thai dynasties, which still dominate the economies of southern Thailand. Many of the well-maintained residences are now home to restaurant, bars, galleries and boutiques, which give it a more than charming feeling, and a totally different view of what the island is best known for. There will be ample time to browse around and see what’s selling, cooking and brewing under local ownerships.
