Ancient Trees

This is Vancouver’s only ancient big tree tour. Within walking distance from downtown Vancouver you will be guided by well known big tree seeker Colin Spratt through Vancouver’s last ancient forest located in historic Stanley Park. The tour lasts around 3 hours and in that period of time you will visit Canada’s largest maple tree, 1000 year old cedars, massive firs, and you will also learn about the history of the park and the history of the original coast Salish people who called the park home. We will walk various trails in the park and see the most impressive giants still standing. Some of these giants are hidden unless you know where to look. Using old maps, postcards over a hundred years old, and photos from Vancouver’s archive, we piece together the history of the ancient forest and the urban environment. This is a completely unique chance to experience the last remaining part of Vancouver's now lost original forested landscape.

We'll also visit the town of "Santa Maria del Tule", its church and its market. This is a great GUIDED ride and we'll provide you with a BIKE and HELMET. We'll meet in Oaxaca city to start our journey to El Tule (45 min. ride, 10 km or 6 miles one way). We'll ride on a SAFE bike lane covered with tree shades for the most part. It's mostly flat. Once we arrive to Santa Maria, we'll take you to the tree, the colorful church and the beautiful lush gardens. Here you'll LEARN interesting facts and history about the tree. Our guides are experienced and knowledgeable and will take you on a journey through our sky. Learn to find north and the location of our seasonal triangles, constellations and planets. Using high-powered laser pointers, we will provide you an entertaining and scholastic experience, with stories about ancient civilizations, Greek mythology, and the evolution of the Cosmos. Our telescopes are operated with a keypad and are as easy to use as sending a text. Telescopes are pre-programmed with our object list for the night. Pressing one button on the keypad moves the telescope to the next object. We regularly view the following types and classes of objects: Galaxies, Nebulae, Star Clusters, Double and Binary Stars, Planets, Earth’s Moon, Globular Clusters, Comets, and more. Depending on timing, the International Space Station (ISS) and Starlink trains can be seen passing overhead.

Discover some wonderful hidden places. Visit a stunning Waterfall, and one of the oldest Olive trees in the world to name just a couple of things you will see.  On this tour you will visit a Gorge and a hidden Waterfall on the east side of the island. Our tour leads you along the coastline with its spectacular views. Olive trees and wildlife are everywhere.
