Max weight per person is 220, to assure weight restriction is met, guests will be weighed on site. Come on the only tour that has a Marine Biologist as your tour guide. They will explain all the processes involved and the unique conditions required for this supernatural phenomena to occur. Your marine biologist will also explain how this delicate ecosystem maintains a pure balance and what must be done to preserve and protect the Bio Bay “Laguna Grande." Your experience takes place in Vieques, an offshore island in Puerto Rico. You will need to arrive at the island of Vieques from the mainland by ferry or airplane, and you will need to stay in Vieques overnight as it will not be possible for you to return to the mainland the same day. Vieques Kayaks Bio Bay excursions are guided in solid and semi clear bottom kayaks through the glowing waters of Mosquito Bay, located on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. Mosquito Bay is the brightest Bioluminescent Bay in the world! Children age five and older are welcome to join the tour with a parent or adult, so long as a ticket is purchased for each participant. To do our tour, guests MUST BE aware that Vieques is an island apart from Puerto Rico so you will need to take a ferry from Ceiba or a plane from San Juan or Ceiba and stay overnight at the island. You will visit two very unique places the sandbars of La Parguera and one of the five Biobays in the world and the only one you can swim in. Very nice boats and skillful Captain.

Your trek to the bioluminous bay leaves at 5:30 PM in winter months and 6:30 PM in the summer months from the Cayman Island Yacht Club Slip B43. Enjoy a beautiful Cayman sunset on the way to Starfish Point. Bring your own beverage, light dinner or snack to enjoy on the boat or the beach. Coolers and ice water are provided. After leaving Starfish Point we head into the beautiful bio bay and spend 30-45 minutes in the bay. You can swim in the bay wearing a snorkeling mask and life vest or stay on the boat to view this amazing sight. Enjoy star-gazing on your journey back to the dock. You might even see a shooting star on a clear night! Tour is back at the dock by approximately 8:00 pm or 9:00 pm, depending on season and departure time. All guests are kindly asked to call and confirm their tour with us at least 24 hours prior to tour date. Please know that tours under ten passengers may not run. Thank you.

There are only a few places in the world where bioluminescence can be seen year round. And luckily for travelers to the Nicoya Peninsula there is one such place here. Bioluminescence is a light created by living organisms through a chemical reaction, biological light. In the gulf it is the algae that create this magical effect. Upon being disturbed, the algae give off a burst of light. Since there are millions of them it looks like sparkles in the water. The wavelengths are in the blue to green area and depending on the amount of algae it will appear as bluish or greenish sparkles. One of the best ways to see this phenomenon is to get a look from above, and kayaking is a great way to see it well. The algae will stick to your paddle, your hand or floating debris glowing for many seconds if you encounter a strong patch. When you kayak over shallow areas, fish will be scared up and it looks like fireworks under water as they take off, leaving a trail of “fairy dust” in their wake.
