The route continues uphill until reaching elevated fields at about 400 meters above sea level. The Cerro Gordo Tower was built in the 16th century on top of an old watchtower from the times of the Kingdom of Granada to protect the workers and fishermen in the area. It visually connects to the west with the Caleta or Cantarriján tower, and to the east with the Torre de la Herradura.
