Ojai has a 100-year history of ceramics. Our studio, located a mile from the city center, is surrounded by nature, in the midst of a fruit orchard. We are a working studio for many of the great artists in the Ojai Valley. Visitors may watch potters work, and may "try their hand" at a range of techniques. After making their pottery, they may may pay a small fee for our staff to trim, glaze and high-fire the work. This "finishing" work takes about 3 weeks. Visitors may also come back to glaze their OWN work. There is no charge for this. AND we will even ship your pieces anywhere in the country…

We will visit a potter family in their house-workshop for the workshop where we have a typical breakfast. But we go furter that that: we may walk in a field or see a production at a local bakery, all depends on availibility and your interests. Pottery satisfied various needs of man's daily life for some rudimentary utensils, using the most simple material soil with rudimentary processing and a little water that could turn it into clay and create works that can be said to have sealed the evolution of civilization. In our workshop we learn the history of clay from the beginning until today. You will see the first pottery tools that were created and their evolution. The visitor will feel, this unique art and how this has passed through the centuries without radical changes and continues even today in our country.

Known to many as ‘one of the largest slums in Asia’, we prefer to think of Dharavi as Mumbai’s beating heart. It houses about one million of Mumbai’s inhabitants and its industries have an annual turnover of approximately US$ 665 million. visitors experience a wide range of these business activities: recycling, pottery-making, embroidery, bakery, soap factory, leather tanning, poppadom-making. We’ll also visit the residential areas of Dharavi. Kumbharwada is one of Dharavi’s oldest and most compelling communities, home to its thriving pottery industry. Spend a few hours with us learning about the community’s rich history and how it became the hub of pottery making in Mumbai. You will see where the material comes from, how it’s prepared, moulded into shape and finally baked. We will also get hands-on, visiting a local potter’s workshop—where we’ll get a general overview of pottery making and have a go at wheel throwing and making a piece of Kumbharwada art.

The workshop is beginner-friendly and does not require previous experience with ceramics, but it is also adapted for all skill levels if you already have experience! It's fun, social, and everyone will end up with at least one finished functional ceramic piece to keep. Many come alone, so don't worry if you don't have someone to bring with you!
